Overheating Shutdown Renders It Useless for Events, June 1, 2013 OVERHEATING BURNED ME--- TWICE!!!!, August 24, 2013 Decent strobe but overheats easily, May 25, 2013 This flash has failed this city, March 2, 2014
As I received it, 1 star but now 5 stars, September 15, 2013 2013年這一則有提到解決辦法(送去改機Is your Sony flash shutting down from heat?? Isaac Hadid of Southern Photo Technical Service In Miami Florida has made a modification for the Sony HVL-F60M flashes that allows about 44 shots at Manual 1/2 power in 77deg room temp before it shuts down. This has allowed customers to use the flash normally without the premature shut down.) I got the HVLF 60M and battery grip free when I purchased the a99 body. I was very disappointed that the flash overheated so quickly. About 10 shots was all I cold get. Then I found the solution on a Sony message board. Someone said that Southern Photo Technical Services could modify the flash to solve the problem. I didn't want to pay $100 to fix the mistake Sony seemed unable to own up to but the flash was basically useless otherwise and I had a family wedding coming up. I sent the flash to them. They fixed it quickly (the modify the fusing among other things) and I got it back the day before the wedding. It worked perfectly (like it should have in the beginning). Hopefully Sony will do the right thing soon. Here is an excerpt from their site. Master technician Isaac Hadid comes to the rescue again to solve the flash complaints of Sony photographers. Isaac and his staff at Southern Photo Technical Service In Miami Florida has made a modification for the Sony HVL-F60M flashes that allows about 44 shots at Manual 1/2 power in 77deg room temp before it shuts down. This has allowed customers to use the flash normally without the premature shut down.
The flash as I got it = one star. After I paid to fix it = 5 stars. I am very happy with the say it now operates.
2014年以後就有Sony改善的review了,或許現在考慮重新再入手一支:
Great feature set 4/10/2014 I tried to get it to overheat because of the bad reviews I had seen. Yes it will but it took 50 full power flashes to do it every ten seconds. That sounds reasonable to me
Versatile flash with many fuctions 3/24/2014 I have read a large number of reviews regarding overheating issue with this flash. I have not experienced this problem on my unit. I tried a number of times to duplicate this issue but wasn't able to. I have set the flash on manual mode in maximum setting and fired away in a dark room. I have put in as much as 50-60 shots back to back without the dreaded overheating icon. Not sure if SONY has changed the design in later batch of this flash. I used Eneloop rechargable cells if that makes difference.
Great flash 3/21/2014 (2 of 2 customers found this review helpful) While there are many negative reviews on this Sony flash due to overheating problems, I have not experienced this on the A7R. Ran a simple test of approx 75 flash shots in a darken room within 4 min span and did not experience overheating. Batteries were generic dollar store varieties. It's a bit large for the A7R, but only one offered with current stack promotion. LED video light is a nice added feature.
