In an ordinary digital camera, a file format known as YCbCr 4:2:2 is used, where the color signal is set to half the brightness signal. This format was developed in order to send color information efficiently on the limited bandwidth available back when color television was first developed. 上面的大意是說，主流的相機產生的圖檔都是 YCbCr 4:2:2格式的，而經由 Sigma Photo Pro的處理，X3F可以解出 YCbCr 4:4:4，也就是說，X3F檔案格式可以記錄的彩度資料(Cb,Cr)是主流相機的兩倍，這似乎可以解釋X3F在色彩上的獨特之處。
