LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. and LEICA BRIGHT LINE FINDER M for 18 mm lenses
With the newly developed LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH., Leica expands their range of short focal-length lenses for the Leica M System. The fundamental parameters of vignetting and distortion traditionally encountered in super-wide-angle lenses have been so well corrected in the case of the LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. that they play no role at all in practice.
Due to the outstanding contrast and reproduction of details, the initial aperture of 3.8 can be used without any limitations. Even wide open, the depth of field extends from infinity to 1.2 metres. When used on digital Leica M models, the LEICA M8 and LEICA M8.2, the slightly smaller format of the sensor increases the effective focal length to the 35 mm format equivalent of 24 mm.
A matching LEICA BRIGHT LINE FINDER M 18 mm is also available for the new LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. lens. The finder has parallax compensation markings for close-up distances below 2 m, and also markings for the slightly smaller image field of LEICA M8 models.
Both the lens as the bright light finder are available at authorised Leica dealers from March 2009.

Mit dem neu entwickelten LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 1:3,8/18 mm ASPH. ergänzt Leica ihr Objektivprogramm für die kurzen Brennweiten im Leica M-System. Die bei Superweitwinkelobjektiven generell schwierig zu beherrschenden Parameter Vignettierung und Verzeichnung sind laut Leica bei dem neuen Objektiv so gut korrigiert, dass sie in der fotografischen Praxis keine Rolle spielen.
Die Anfangsöffnung von 3,8 lasst sich uneingeschränkt nutzen, da Kontrast- und Detailwiedergabe hier bereits hervorragend sind. Schon bei voller Öffnung reicht die Schärfentiefe von Unendlich bis 1,2 Meter.
Verwendet an den digitalen Leica M Modellen entsteht durch den etwas kleineren Bildsensor eine Äquivalentbrennweite von 24 mm. Das Objektiv soll im Fachhandel ab März verfügbar sein und kostet 2300 Euro.
Passend zum neuen SUPER-ELMAR-M ist ein entsprechender Spiegelsucher M 18 mm erhältlich. Der Sucher ist sowohl mit einer Parallaxmarkierung für den Nahbereich von zwei Metern, als auch mit Markierungen für das etwas kleinere Bildfeld der LEICA M8 Modelle versehen.

Leica即將推出一款M系旁軸使用的新18mm超廣角鏡頭：Super-Elmar-M 18mm f3.8 ASPH，Leica聲稱，這款新鏡頭將廣泛適用於報導攝影、風景攝影以及建築攝影，在Leica M8/M8.2上則剛好等效于24mm焦段。
Leica Super-Elmar-M 18mm f3.8 ASPH採用8枚7組鏡片設計，包含一片非球面鏡片，同時上市的還將包括一款新18mm增亮取景器。
除此之外，Leica還發佈了一隻涵蓋焦距達到24-105mm的新閃燈——Leica SF58，這支閃燈將同時適用於M旁軸、R單反、以及即將在今年夏季登場的S系統，提供標準和柔光兩種模式，支援固件升級。
