Can Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 be installed to W2D

Hi,

I have to say sorry that I can't type Chinese in my laptop. But it's welcome to reply in Chinese.

I bought a W2 3 years ago, it's still running well. Although it doesn't have Bluetooth, it's still suit for my needs, I just installed a pcmcia BT card and it perfect my W2.

I have added a 512 RAM, now it's totally 768 MB. I am planning to change a higher speed HD and purchase a new battery, then W2 can stay with me longer.

I am just wondering can Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 be installed to W2C? I saw there are many people installed 7K60, but when I look into the specification of 7K100, I didn't see any word indicates the 3V power. I just saw pin 41 is "+ 5V logic" and pin 42 is "+5V motor".

I just want to make sure that by short circuit of pin 41 and 42 can force the HDD have 3V power supply.

It would be appreciate if someone can share the experience.

我用的是 W2D 裝 7K100 100G 是沒有問題的
你可以參考看看不過我是拿去給人家改就是了

我的 W2B 現在也是用 7K100
pin 腳我沒凹斷, 是折到一旁去, 避免破壞哈滴的保固

加了 512MB RAM (totally 768MB Ram now)
跑起來很順的

唯一不太滿意的就是它的 Wireless Lan 是 802.11b
有時訊號不太穩, 即使換了最新的 driver 也偶爾出槌

現在打算換美規鍵盤跟 802.11 b/g 的 WLAN 上去

Here is a question for you.
You mentioned about "是折到一旁去", did you mean that you short pin 41 and 42 just like this thread 請教！Panasonic W2D 更換硬碟後的問題?

I am also confused.
In the thread 請教！Panasonic W2D 更換硬碟後的問題, zerx said that pin 41 and 42 MUST to be short.
I am thinking could it be possible because of different HDD, in some HDD you can't short it, but in some HDD you have to short it?

Anyway, could someone has installed Hitachi 7k100 share the experience?

BTW, what can we do for that old HDD? It seens like it's not possible to put it into an external USB enclosure unless the USB enclosure is designed for 3.3V. Am I right?

I am sure it will be working, since my W2B now is working fine.

By the way, the old HDD is designed for dual voltage. Thus, you don't need to worry about if you wish to use it as extrenal storage. It will be working on 5V as well.

One more question for you. Hope this won't bother you. Does it have a big effect with the battery hour according to your experience?

If everything goes fine, I am going to order a 7K100, it's about USD 130 in the newegg.com.
