What is Microsoft Vista Retail Upgrade Support Service?
Microsoft Vista Retail Upgrade Support Service is a fee-based telephone support service for customers who are upgrading their existing Dell machines from Microsoft Windows XP to Microsoft Vista Retail operating system. It will be sold as an APOS or Point-Of-Need offer. Customers who purchased a Dell Computer with MS Windows XP OS, from Jan 2005 to Nov 2006 potentially may have hardware that may be ready to run MS Vista Retail OS or may require additional hardware upgrades to support the MS Vista upgrade. These customers may choose to purchase HelpDesk service in order to obtain help on upgrading to MS Vista Retail that customers purchased through retail channel. Even though support for this upgrade is outside of normal support boundaries, customers will still look to Dell for technical assistance.

Benefits to Dell:

Dell will provide a better customer experience along with an incremental service revenue
Other computer OEM’s and retailers will most likely offer similar upgrade assistance services. This offer is designed to meet competition and to prevent customers from perceiving Dell as “lacking” some level of support for its legacy systems.
Benefits to customers:

Increase customer experience within Dell Services by providing customers a way to get help via HelpDesk on upgrading their Dell systems to MS Vista Retail operating system
Customers will also be able to contact HelpDesk for other software, virus and spyware assistance in future
