hardware : CPU/TL-58,3 G ram , VGA card : ATI 2400 XT .
O/S : Home premium .
For English ability of kids , changed O/S to Win XP SP3 ( English O/S )
also from Toshiba's harddoisl to Hitachi ( same spec ), use same machine, only changed O/S & O/S to testing it temporary .
Advantage of Vista home premium :
1.O/S : very stable , not easy to shutting down , may be one time in one week .
2.open Phososhop CS2 or Illustrator CS2 , very fast & stable than Win XP sp3 .
3.Resolution : DirectX 10.0, so scene is beautiful .
Advange of Win XP sp3 :
1.From Start to ready about 60 secs, Vista home premium about 90 secs .
If not care specific software , Usiong TV tuner to watch Wireless TV broadcasting ,
or internet Video of CNN .................... .
It is "true color " TV .
If your hardware with shared VGA and not "dual core CPU", may be Win XP is best choice ,
other Vista Home premium is good , that's why HP's notebook ,cheap but not best balance .
