Garmin 76s or Magellan color

Hi all,

First, I would like to apologize for not using the BIG-5 to write.

For several days ago, I returned the garmin legand T because it is for left hand user and has the small display screen not easy for navigatingto drive.

I did my homework but don't know how to chose between the Garmin 76s and Magellan color or to wait for the new GPS 60.

Both Garmin 76s and Magellan color have almost the same funtion, but one is color. The Magellan color is easy to use and has extra memory card to store map data. However, I don't know whether it is upgradeable to Taiwan's Map or its quality is relaible. It is painful and I am tired of losing my way in US.

BTW, what are the differences between Patch antenna and quad helix attenna?

gdan兄，忘了在PIL回您… 失禮了！
小弟用過 GPSMAP 76,76T ,Plantium,iFinder 等…
所以應該有資格說一下偶的看法，

Magellan Meridian Color 不用考慮，Sportrak-color 還比它新及優…
都是台灣金寶代工，但 Made in China.沒有 Taiwan Grid.
台灣也沒有經銷商，只能國外買入…

Sportrak 沒用過，不過因和 Lowrance iFinder 一樣是使用 SIRF 晶片，
據說樹蔭下接收狀況不錯，
爬山時，偶的 iFinder 丟在背包上，從來沒有失望過…
航跡也不輸背大天線…

就價格來說，現在 76s 已降至308美元左右，相當超值。
但如果你要使用台灣地圖的話，還是只能選中文機。

彩色機沒什麼了不起，只增加耗電罷了！
所以雖有176及176C，野外還是用 176 居多…

Magellan 也不可能有台灣地圖，而 DIY 的可能性，目前來說是零…

I do thank you and appreciate your replying.

Could I have an addtional question? Are you a mind reader? Before I want to submit my questions, you already offer the relative informatoin to reply. Is it a new function for the new GPS?

The reason I like a coloful screen is the basemap routes are readable at glance. The budget is under USD 400 and I will be able to have a navigating and waterproof and easy read GPS handheld. Once I had considered etrax series products, but I gave them up because they have same problems as like Garmin Legand has. A GPS to be uploaded Taiwan grid is also important becuse I will go home after finishing my studying.

It will not be considered which is like the combo of PDA and CF GPS. I did think the combo of ppc and gps with using RS-232 or usb connector. The price and the bettery life are two big issues.

I will keep losing my way before buying the GPS 76s or the new released porducts.

The Autumn has been coming. The temperature of outside is 46F. All leaves are changing the color. The same star is shining in the different sky. Without gps is without direction and not fun at all.

I'm not a mind reader , but just prompt you considered well before deciding.
Free from bias and without favor to any brand-new GPS.

Because
Looking for a perfect GPS receiver is a mission of impossible by now.

Automobile Navigation ≠ Hiking
Use in US ≠ Use in Taiwan
Expensive ≠ High quality
Good looking ≠ Excellent performance
