Hey everyone,
There seem to be a lot of people experiencing the problem when browsing "people" on their HTC DESIRE, you get the message
the application People (process com.android.htc contacts) has stopped unexpectedly.
This happens mostly when trying to view someones contact info and means you cant view it because it continues to crash over and over! VERY ANNOYING!
SOLUTION:
This might happen with just a select few contacts or lots of them. I am pretty sure it is linked with FACEBOOK.
On the desire, (it is a great phone) it auto synchs your contacts from facebook into your phone.
When you are in the "people" app you can chose if you want to see all your contacts (gmail contact list, facebook, + ones you have added in manually etc.. etc..)
the program only crashes when there is an error with a contact from facebook. (or so I have found)
You have to go to:
settings - accounts and sync
turn off auto sync and then remove your facebook account from the "manage accounts"
Go back into the "people" application and go to "online directories" (the little globe) then go to facebook. re-enter your details.
hopefully after resetting it all. the problem should go away.
the annoying thing is, you have to go back through and link all your contacts to their facebook accounts again.
I have done this and it all seems to be working.
Here is another tip:
on the main page of "people"
down the bottom there are 4 tabs. ALL, Groups, Online Directories, Call history.
If you hold down MENU, while in the "ALL" tab and tap into "view"
you can change who you see under "all"
you will see there are people saved to your sim, to your google accounts (if you have a gmail account synched) numbers saved to the phone and your facebook friends.
To avoid the problem in the future, I recommend you only show contacts you have manually added, imported or have saved (you have the option of saving to your sim, phone, google account).
And if you want to view contact info for people on facebook then head into the online directories and go from there.
Hope this helps
andy
