I am very sorry to say, this is exactly why no taiwanness brand can stand up in the world. All these companies can do is be the slave of someone else and grossly violate the human right of their employees.

x500 has just been released only a week, and the fix/update is out? I would like to know if it is new world record.

Eten is not the only one doing this stupid thing. In fact, all taiwanness brands are doing the same stupid thing. What they actually achieved is not by releasing any innovated products but to have any product to die in the world market first.

Remember, we, the majority of the consumers in the world, want to buy a product, use a product, and live happly ever after. We have no time, and no patient call support, and certainly have no intelligent or brain to upgrade firmware. I can not even program my VCR and what else do you want me to do? If it does not work right from the minute I get it, bye bye. If two or three models from the same company don't work right from the beginning, bye bye forever. If five or ten brands from the same region don't work right, well, you get the picture.
I can't agree with you. Since it's company's obligation to produce reliable products, it's still impossible to have perfect products in this real world. The Microsoft system, for example, also needs lots of patches or improvements to make it work better. For my opinion, it's a really good move for Eten to release this patch so fast, not after lots of complaints from consumers. Yes, we all do want perfect stuff for happier life, however, this is real world, everything is not ideal though.

Shipping product without any fix/patch update is not stupid ?
Maybe it's "yes" before, but it's "NO" from now.

We just can say, that's hard to say who is stupid,
Just go to buy the product without any update, no matter how many issues it has.

Everybody can buy his right product in the world !!
Your valuable opinions have just proved my point. And, thank you very much as I just won the bet among colleagues.

You are willing to tolerate known defective products as long as the manufacturers willing to continuing to fix it along the way. Remember, this product has just been released for ONE week. Please, educate me, how long does it take to consider customers’ feedback is really a defect that needs to be addressed? How long does it take to fix a problem and thoroughly tested before released to the public? Ever wondering why the big domestic brands you see in taiwan never go on the world market? Your valuable opinions are the answer. Good luck being a slave forever. However, I can always find a slave that eats less, dress less, sleep less, and while works longer, harder, and better.
Actually, I think your opinion is totally biased. There are several products with "defects" what you mentioned, like the NB battery from SONY, air bag in FORD's car, or even what I mentioned before the Windows from Microsoft. These brands are global welcome, however, they also have "defects" in their products. Of course, the quality is very important, but the service and support are also required too. In this case of X500, this patch is for improving the quality, it's not kind of fixing "defect". You can still survive and use your X500 without this patch if you are not so picky. By the way, I also can't agree with your opinion about the Taiwanese brands can't stand up in the world. It's a big issue, not only related to the quality stuff. O2 cooperates with Gigabytes, T-mobile cooperates with HTC, and ETEN also sell their PDA phone in Europe. Brand development needs lots of investment and marketing strategeies, not only related to the quality of products. If you stiill insist this, probably you should go to Walmart and check the cheap products which are from China. Or, you never tolerate them?
The last thing is, if you can tell us that Blackberry, HP 4700, or Dell PDA which are most welcome in USA never need update, then I can agree with all your opinion and thank for your "education".
Of course, Eten is not smart enough this time. Since this patch is not so critical, they could release this later, or some consumers will have this kind of "slave" opinion. They are too honest to think about how consumers will feel.
CameoTabby,

I think you have a point - We customers should encourage our vendors to built products that were well tested and well engineered. However, because of the high intensity completition among the manufacturers, they simply cannot affort to have more time for very thuorogh tests - Time to market is such an important factor to the survivial of high tech companies like ETEN.

Not sure if you have exposure to manufacturing or software development, but I can tell you that there is lead time between the product leaving the production line and the product can be put in the store shelf. In some cases, it could be 2 -3 weeks apart. In that period, they found problems, fixed them, and release to user for patching, I think that 1 month it is about the right bugfix release cycle.

If you ask me if I would buy a product knowing there are some problems, I would say maybe - I would consider if I can live with those problems (I would not buy an X-ray machine if I am know there is a fatal problem in the software), I would consider if there are no alternative choices, I would consider if the cost effectiveness outweight the problem anticipated. All in all, it is just a personal choice.

In this state and age, it is very hard to find a new product does not suffer from any manufacturing and engineering problems. I think important that we appreciate responsible manufacturers like ETEN which tried it best to ensure the product quality and continueously provide updates and patches to the users to enhance the system stablity, performance, and functionality.

It's just my 2 cents.

不知道該不該湊一腳…
如果要搶佔市場先機,不可能做到完美才上市,
那會失去先機,最潛而易見的就是Microsoft.

搶了先機,當然就要開始補不足之處,不然只會被罵到臭頭,
沒有誰對誰錯,只是在商言商。

通常我看到更新軟體,我都會很開心,又有新東西可以嚐試,
或是改善原有功能的不良或是不足。

You made a logical mistake. I am not sure how well-educated you are. However, you have bias with your viewpoint and you'd better review your argument one more time.

You asserted Etan released a unperfect product that needed patches within one week.

First, the only product in the world can be named perfect is the product never needing a patch, not a product having a patch the longest time after launched. Any product with patches, no matter how long those patches are released, means that product is not perfect when sold to consumers and has some problem to solve. Since I never hear a PDA product in the market without patches, I may say all PDAs sold are not perfect and need patches. In this case, I would prefer those brands which can release patches as soon as possible. The early release of patches means the company cares about their consumers and products, thus they work hard to make the product better.

Second, one week after launched doesn't mean those products were produced within one week. The products were produced and boxed earlier so that Eten has trouble to upgrade the firmware. However, they still release the updated patch so that consumers can quickly upgrade their PDAs. I think this stands for the company's great responsibility of this product.

Finally, I don't think this relates to anything about Taiwan brands. If you really have to correlate it to Taiwan, you can just stop buying Taiwanese products. However, once you stop buying any products from Taiwan, I can not image how many things you cannot buy. First of all, you may throw your NB away since most of the named brand NB are O.E.M in Taiwan. Furthermore, if you are biased on Taiwanese products, I also don't want any Taiwanese product bought by you. Think about it! Products are products. You can question on products but don't relate it to nationality. Thanks.
