I am sorry, it wasn't a good example. You have my apology.
All i want to say is, for oil, it is important to follow factory's guideline. A responsible factory knows their car better than anyone else, and if they suggest certain kind of oil, it is a good idea to follow.
Most modern engine require fully synthetic oil. A full synthetic oil is not that much more expensive than regular oil, i don't understand why someone really have to sue regular one.
take Mobil 1 for example, a regular one cost USD$ 3 per bottle. Full synthetic one cost 5-6 USD per bottle. the difference is like $2 per bottle. a 4 cylinder engine usually need 4 bottle. so that's like $8 difference per oil change.
regular oil need to change more often. if you count the cost of oil filter, you can't save money by using cheaper oil.
HOWEVER, some engine can NOT use full synthetic oil. so check with the manufacture first.
BMW used to use mobil 1 in North America. They changed to Castal few years ago. BUT all bmw use full synthetic oil.
I have sent my oil for analysis before. In North America, BMW suggest change oil every 15K Miles. BUT when i got the report, i was quite surprised. Although the oil is still ok, they found some paper fiber in the oil!! So the problem is not oil, it was the oil filter which can't last THAT long!!
after that, i usually change at 7500 miles which is like 12000 KM. I never have a problem again.
after all, it's your money, you can change it as often as you want. but for me, I would rather spend the money on others.
