My parents' old car was 1998 Lexus LS400. The first 30000KM, he use 95 (because there was no 98 in taiwan at that time), Once 98 is available, he start using 98 for the next 80000km. After that, he change back to 95 because people told him there is no difference. His engine start to feel rough and sharky at 160000km.
My uncle, bought exactly the same car in 1999. also a Lexus LS400. He was using 95 only the entire time. His engine start feel rough at 90000km.
I can't say there is a relation between gasoline's quality and engine roughness in both case. however, I will only use 98 in a high performance import cars.
usually, if you use lower quality gas, it is easilier to have carbon build-up. (don't know if that's true)
