As part of the staff benefits, I had the pleasure of joining a tour to the Kinmen County. So before I share my pictures, it might be a good idea to give you a brief background story of the small island.
Kinmen is an island about a little less than 1 hour of flight away from Taiwan. Due to its close distance away from Main Land China, the island was a crucial tactical military point a few decades back, but now the island has opened for tourists and has been doing very well ever since!
Kinmen is extremely famous for its Kaoliang Liquor which is made from Sorghum, the liquor is rich in character and has an alcohol level of 58% - NOT for the lighthearted!!
Due to the island’s military background, there are plenty of empty bomb shells around and in result -> visitors are interested to see the actual bomb-exercise.
Obviously, where there are bombs / missiles there must be launchers. This is just one of the many on display.
Apart from the all the army stuff, Kinmen is also a cultural zone. From building styles, cuisine and the dialect, it is obvious that the Fujian Culture plays a huge role here.
Here we can find the disappearing traditional San-Ho-Yuan which is basically a three-section compound.
I think for anyone who has experienced the horrors of war, PEACE is a divine delight. Therefore in order to symbolize that idea, a Bell of Peace was erected in the hope to maintain a peaceful and prosperous relationship between the cross-straits.
Due to the unique historical characteristic, the empty bomb shells receive a second chance – Being transformed into top quality knives!Being back to Taiwan for almost 7 years now, Kinmen is probably the only province who has made an effort to beautify their Bus Stops.
On this trip, we have also visited many historical halls… and temples…
So, all in all, I really enjoyed my trip! Kinmen has such a charming characteristic with extremely friendly locals, adding so much hospitality to the visit. If anyone have a free weekend, I would strongly recommend you to visit this very cute and lovely island – Kinmen!
Now, due to the recent climbing events of foreign visitors disrespecting our hospitality, as a Taiwanese I think I need to voice out:
> We welcome foreign visitors (all nations)!
> We are welcoming and enjoy being a good host to our visitors!
- But, if you can’t find yourself to respect us – Don’t expect we will turn the other cheek.
- But, if you can’t find yourself to abide to our law – We will catch you and be sure to deport your sorry ass back home!
- But, if you take our hospitality for granted – Shame on you and karma will catch up with you!
