今天很開心與大家分享這兩枚英國皇家鑄幣廠「不列顛女神東方邊境」一盎司精鑄金銀幣。Today, I am very happy to share these two 1 oz Proof Gold and Silver Coins from The Royal Mint, featuring the “Britannia Oriental Border” design.
說起金銀幣收藏，英國皇家鑄幣廠（The Royal Mint）的精鑄幣在國際收藏市場上一直享有相當高的知名度。而這枚「不列顛女神東方邊境」之所以能夠吸引我，並最終成為我心目中的夢幻收藏品，這一切還要從我最初踏入金幣收藏的時候說起。
當時剛開始接觸金幣收藏，我仰賴許多金幣收藏前輩的分享，也因此逐漸認識世界各國鑄幣廠所推出的各式金幣。
然而，在眾多作品之中，唯獨這枚「東方邊境」給了我一種非常特別的感受。
那是一種很難單純用「漂亮」兩個字來形容的喜愛。
When it comes to gold and silver coin collecting, Proof coins from The Royal Mint have long enjoyed a strong reputation among collectors around the world.
The story of what attracted me to this “Britannia Oriental Border” coin, and eventually made it one of my dream collectibles, began when I first started collecting gold coins.
When I first entered the world of gold coin collecting, I relied greatly on the sharing and experience of many senior collectors. Through them, I gradually came to know the many different gold coins issued by mints around the world.
Yet among all those pieces, this “Oriental Border” design gave me a very special feeling.
It was a kind of attraction that was difficult to describe simply with the word “beautiful.”
「Britannia」不列顛女神，作為英國皇家鑄幣廠極具代表性的國家象徵之一，長年出現在 Britannia 系列的普製幣、精鑄幣與金銀幣作品之中。
然而，2018 年的這一枚作品，卻在傳統 Britannia 形象之外，加入了極具東方藝術風格的裝飾邊框，使整枚作品產生了一種非常特殊的東西方文化交會。
在東方傳統藝術中，迴紋是一種歷史悠久的幾何裝飾紋樣，具有連綿不絕、循環往復的視覺特徵。在中國傳統文化的語境裡，這類綿延不斷的紋飾，也容易讓人聯想到富貴綿延、吉祥長久、生生不息等美好寓意。
從古代藝術的發展來看，迴紋、雷紋與雲雷紋等幾何化紋樣之間，也存在著相當深厚的文化脈絡。當龍、雲、雷等自然與神話意象被逐漸幾何化之後，原本具象的形象便轉化成可以不斷延續的線條與紋飾。
那種一線相連、迴旋不止、彷彿沒有終點的折繞感，也讓我聯想到古人對於生命延續、天地運轉與生生不息的哲學思考。
也正因如此，當我第一次看到 Britannia 與這樣的東方裝飾邊框結合時，便產生了一種非常奇妙的文化熟悉感。
一邊是英國歷史與國家精神的象徵。
另一邊，卻是我從小所熟悉的東方文化符號。
兩種不同文明的藝術語言，就這樣在一枚小小的圓形金幣上相遇。
而這也正是這枚作品最吸引我的地方。
Britannia, as one of the most representative symbols of British identity, has appeared for many years across Britannia bullion coins, Proof coins, and gold and silver issues.
However, this 2018 design went beyond the traditional Britannia image by incorporating a highly distinctive Oriental-style decorative border, creating a very special meeting point between Eastern and Western cultures.
In traditional Eastern art, the fret pattern is a long-established geometric decorative motif, characterized by continuous, repeating lines. Within the context of traditional Chinese culture, such endlessly connected patterns can also evoke ideas of lasting prosperity, good fortune, longevity, and continuous life.
Looking at the development of ancient art, geometric motifs such as fret patterns, leiwen, and yunleiwen also have deep cultural connections. As natural and mythological images such as dragons, clouds, and thunder gradually became more geometrically stylized, these originally figurative images were transformed into lines and patterns capable of continuing endlessly.
That sense of one continuous line, endlessly turning and seemingly without an ending, also reminds me of the ancient philosophical ideas surrounding the continuation of life, the movement of heaven and earth, and the endless cycle of existence.
For this reason, when I first saw Britannia combined with such an Oriental decorative border, I felt a very curious sense of cultural familiarity.
On one side was a symbol of British history and national spirit.
On the other was an Eastern cultural symbol that I had been familiar with since childhood.
The artistic languages of two different civilizations had come together on one small round gold coin.
And that, to me, is precisely what makes this piece so attractive.
Britannia--英國精神的經典象徵
不列顛女神 Britannia 的形象，長久以來便是英國歷史與國家精神的重要象徵之一。在經典的 Britannia 形象中，她手持三叉戟與盾牌，並搭配橄欖枝等象徵元素，呈現出守護、力量、和平與海洋文明等多重文化意涵。

The image of Britannia has long been an important symbol of British history and national identity.
In the classic Britannia design, she carries a trident and shield, together with symbolic elements such as an olive branch, conveying ideas of protection, strength, peace, and Britain’s maritime heritage.
In 1987, The Royal Mint introduced the modern Britannia gold coin series. The Britannia design created by Philip Nathan became one of the series’ most representative and enduring classic designs.
Decades later, this image can still be seen throughout The Royal Mint’s Britannia coinage.
For me, one of the most fascinating qualities of Britannia is the way she combines strength and elegance.
The trident and shield convey strength and protection, while the pose and classical sculptural lines of the figure express a distinctive Western artistic aesthetic.
Therefore, when this deeply symbolic British figure of Britannia meets a decorative border carrying an Eastern artistic character, a very unique visual dialogue is created.
東西方美學，在一枚金幣上相遇
也正是這樣的東西方美學結合，加上精鑄工藝所呈現出的深邃鏡面與浮雕層次，讓我對這枚金幣逐漸產生了「一定要收藏它」的想法。在眾多 Britannia 金幣作品之中，這一枚對我而言，就是心中的夢幻逸品。
因為它所呈現的，已經不只是貴金屬本身，也不只是英國皇家鑄幣廠的一件收藏品。
它更像是一個東西方文化交會的縮影。
而這也讓我聯想到一百多年前的英國貿易銀元（British Trade Dollar）。
在那個時代，英國貿易銀元曾經活躍於亞洲貿易體系之中，成為東西方貿易與金融交流歷史的一部分。
一百多年後，同樣來自英國鑄幣傳統的 Britannia，在 2018 年又以完全不同的時代背景與鑄幣技術，重新出現了帶有東方藝術元素的設計。
對我而言，這不只是兩枚硬幣之間的相似之處，而是一種跨越百年時光的文化呼應。
時代改變了，鑄幣技術進步了，藝術表現方式也更加精緻，但東西方文化彼此交流、彼此影響的痕跡，卻仍然可以在這些作品之中找到。
也因此，我認為這枚 2018 Oriental Border Britannia 最令人動容的地方，並不只是它的稀有程度或貴金屬價值，而是它所承載的文化意義與時代象徵。
至少在我的收藏觀念裡，這是一件值得被好好保存、研究與記錄的作品。
It was precisely this combination of Eastern and Western aesthetics, together with the deep mirrored fields and relief created by Proof craftsmanship, that gradually made me feel that I simply had to own this coin.
Among the many Britannia gold coin designs, this one has always been one of my dream pieces.
Because what it represents is no longer simply precious metal, nor merely another collectible issued by The Royal Mint.
It feels more like a small reflection of the meeting between Eastern and Western cultures.
It also reminds me of the British Trade Dollar from more than a century ago.
During that period, the British Trade Dollar was widely used in Asian trade and became part of the history of commercial and financial exchange between East and West.
More than a century later, Britannia, coming from the same British minting tradition, appeared again in 2018 with an Oriental artistic element, but in a completely different historical era and with modern minting technology.
To me, this is more than simply a similarity between two coins. It is a cultural echo spanning more than a century.
Times have changed, minting technology has advanced, and artistic expression has become increasingly refined. Yet traces of interaction and mutual influence between Eastern and Western cultures can still be found in these works.
For this reason, I believe that what makes this 2018 Oriental Border Britannia especially moving is not simply its rarity or precious-metal value, but the cultural meaning and historical symbolism it carries.
At least within my own philosophy of collecting, this is a piece that deserves to be carefully preserved, studied, and documented.
三年的 Oriental Border 系列，以及 2018 年特殊的精鑄版本

The Royal Mint introduced this very distinctive Oriental Border design in 2018, combining the traditional Britannia image with an Oriental-style decorative border.
The design was not continued indefinitely, but appeared in the Britannia series for only three years: 2018, 2019, and 2020.
As the first year of the design, 2018 saw the release of Oriental Border bullion gold and silver coins, followed by the 2019 and 2020 issues.
For the bullion gold coins, the maximum mintage was 5,000 pieces for each of the three years.
For the bullion silver coins, the mintages were 100,000 pieces in 2018, 50,000 pieces in 2019, and 50,000 pieces in 2020.
For the Proof versions, 2018 also saw the release of a 1 oz Proof Gold Coin, with a Maximum Coin Mintage of only 325 pieces according to the official Royal Mint COA. A 1 oz Proof Silver Coin was also issued in the same year, with a mintage of 2,500 pieces.

Britannia’s iconic shield proudly bears the Union Jack, a powerful symbol of Britain and its national identity. In the design of the coin, the shield represents protection and strength, while also adding a strong sense of British identity to the composition. The combination of this Western symbol with the distinctive Oriental border introduced in 2018 creates a remarkable visual meeting of Eastern and Western artistic traditions.

A similarly simple wave motif can also be seen on the left side, representing the sea.
Why is the wave motif kept so small? In my view, if the waves were designed too large, they could become visually dominant and occupy too much of the composition, taking attention away from Britannia herself.
Sometimes a symbolic element does not need to be large in order to be noticed or understood. This is also consistent with the classic visual treatment seen in the original 1987 Britannia design.

Here, I would like to pay tribute to this remarkable woman. As the longest-reigning monarch in British history, her life and story have left a lasting impression on generations of people. For me, the final portrait gives these gold and silver coins an especially profound sense of respect and historical remembrance.

I have shared quite a number of photographs above, and I hope they have allowed fellow collectors to appreciate the details of these two coins.
後記
這兩枚代表的英國與東方藝術文化交融的作品，雖然今年已經到了 2026 年了，已經經過了八年的時間，但是在我看來，能夠以英國皇家鑄幣廠鑄造，並在邊框上面加入了東方紋飾的設計，本身就是一個很好的創新。並且呼應百年前的英國貿易銀元（站洋），這本身跨越百年，並且象徵著東方與西方貿易、歷史還有文化的交融，於 2018 年再次被創作出來。
而且將屬於國家主權的金銀幣做得如此精美，不管是在藝術、工藝、文化，還有其象徵的東西方文化，皆呈現在這方圓之間，這本身就是很值得令人感動的。
然而這份感動與記憶，就我自己的認知與審美，一件好的藝術作品，並且在 21 世紀能被紀錄為一個時代的頂尖作品，這一枚 2018 年東方邊境精鑄金銀幣，就是其代表作之一。
而隨著歲月及時間慢慢走過，當後人到了之後的時間裡，我相信這一枚幣是會被東西方藏家記住的一枚作品。

These two works represent a meeting between British and Eastern artistic cultures. Although it is now 2026, eight years have already passed since they were created. Yet in my view, the fact that these coins were produced by The Royal Mint and incorporated an Oriental decorative border is itself a wonderful form of artistic innovation.
They also remind me of the British Trade Dollar from a century ago. In this way, the design seems to cross more than a hundred years, reflecting the history of trade, cultural exchange, and interaction between East and West, before appearing once again in a new form in 2018.
More importantly, these are coins representing national sovereignty, yet they have been created with such a high level of artistic and technical refinement. Art, craftsmanship, history, culture, and the meeting of Eastern and Western traditions all come together within these small circular pieces.
For me, that is genuinely moving.
And when I think about this feeling and memory from my own perspective and aesthetic appreciation, I believe that a truly good work of art is not merely something beautiful at the moment it is created. If it can stand as a work that captures the spirit of its era in the 21st century, then, in my view, this 2018 Oriental Border Proof Gold and Silver Coin is one such representative work.
As the years continue to pass, I believe that future collectors from both East and West may come to remember these coins as distinctive works of their time.

一枚金幣，站在不列顛的海風裡，
三叉戟指向遠方，
盾牌守著一個國家的記憶。
而在那一圈邊緣，
卻悄悄走來了東方的線條，
一折、一繞，
一線相連，沒有終點。
那是我熟悉的文化，
也是我從小看過的紋樣，
卻在這一天，
與 Britannia 相遇。
金色映著英國，
銀色映著歲月，
而百年前的站洋，
彷彿也從歷史的另一端走來，
隔著百年，
與今天的這兩枚硬幣，
輕輕點了一次頭。
2018，
它被鑄造出來。
2026，
我站在時間的另一端，
再一次看著它。
也許今天的我們，
未必知道後人會如何看待它；
也許再過很多年，
這些金與銀，

“One Eastern Line, One Western Circle”
A gold coin,standing in Britain’s sea breeze,
her trident reaching toward the distance,
her shield guarding the memory of a nation.
And around that edge,
the lines of the East quietly arrived—
turning once,
turning again,
one continuous line without an ending.
It was a culture I already knew,
a pattern I had seen since childhood,
yet on this day,
it met Britannia.
Gold reflected Britain.
Silver reflected time.
And the British Trade Dollar of a century ago
seemed to arrive from another side of history,
crossing a hundred years
to quietly meet these two coins.
2018—
they were created.
2026—
I stand on the other side of time
and look at them once again.
Perhaps we cannot know today
how future generations will see them.
Perhaps many years from now,
these pieces of gold and silver
will have become more than gold and silver.
What remains may be
that Oriental border,
the figure of Britannia,
the final portrait,
and a moment in history
that once truly moved someone.
And I simply happened
to meet them
while time was passing.
So I wanted to preserve them.
Not only for the sake of collecting,
but so that many years from now,
when another collector holds them again,
they may still understand:
There was once a time
when East and West
met within
one small circle.
