What is the WAP / Internet profile setting for various wireless providers in Taiwan? (using with PocketPC)

I will be in Taiwan for 3 weeks (yeah!!!!). I would like to get the info ahead of time. I wonder if anyone has any WAP / Internet profile setting for different wireless providers for SEW800i and Moto Razr V3?

I plan to use BT connecting between SE W800i / Razr V3 and my pocketpc, so i can surf online while I am on the train from Taipei to KHH.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forum. Where are you from?

What is your main mobile system?
I suggest roaming in the Chunghwa Telecom is your best choice.

However, you must use your native system for using wap.
Besides, the fare is expensive.
You do not need to reset all of your WAP, MMS, GPRS or any other related settings.

It is because the roman service is done by VPN.

Stay with your orginial settings and it just works.

Of course, you can call your carrier about this if you do concern about that.

One more thing, if your Pocket PC has Wi-Fi access, you should be able to find a lot of "Free" (I guess you know what I mean) access point, although not likely on the train.

Hi, thank you for the greeting. I am from US. I have my SE W800i and V3. Actually, does the pre-paid cell phone card in Taiwan include the WAP capability?
I plan to buy the prepaid sim card and use it in my phone, rather than paying high roaming fee on it thou.

If the prepaid cell SIM cards do not include the WAP, I would not bother to figure it out how to set the WAP / Internet settings at all.

I will bring my laptop and PDA with me to travel this time. Actually, I try to travel light w/o laptop. However, I only have a small memory card for my digital camera, so I need some storage space for my digital pictures.

I will try to local some free hotspot when I am in taiwan and hong kong.
Any ideas where (or more common) locations I could get the free hotspot access in Hong Kong and Taiwan (I know taipei has some of these hot spots. However, how about in the Kaohsiung?)
Sorry,
the pre-paid cell phone card in Taiwan does not include the WAP capability.
That is, you may not use the WAP service at all.

Oh... if it is the case, I guess I won't not need to bring my PDA with me.

thx for the info. (but i still need to buy a prepaid SIM card since I need to make some calls anyway)
Things become much easiler in Hong Kong. (I am from Hong Kong)

First, there are Pre-paid sims with GPRS support, check out the SmarTone-Vodafone "PayGo" service.

Secondly, you would be able to access Wi-Fi in a number of locations in Hong Kong. Starbucks, Pacific Coffee must have them, although you have to pay for them for service in Starbucks.

Thirdly, Hong Kong's IDD service is extremely cheap. How cheap? Even cheaper than Skype out!
Like, USD 0.006/minute to The States. Of course, you cannot enjoy such a low price if you are using Pre-paid service, but they are still very cheap.

thanks for the info (I am from hong kong too).

I usually use Orange Prepaid sim card. However, the receiption is not that great but the IDD (with some code like 1988 something like that) is cheap. I know it is very cheap to call from Hong kong to US.

Anyhow, I will try to get the SmaTone-Vodafone paygo sim card. do you know how much it would cost for calling local per minute (and send SMS outside of Smartone network, but within HK region / out to oversea)?
You can find more about PayGo here
