Unless you're an academic faculty, how can you 'salary sacrifice' an 'education discounted' MBP ?
Even you're an academic faculty, your employer(i.e., the school/uni.) have to be willing to do a salary sacrifice for you.

The conclusion is:

If you're a student, get edu price and bring it out of australia. However, according to the custom regulation, you cannot take that computer back to australia within 12 months, otherwise you will be charged the GST again because it's value exceeds $1000. But the reality is, no custom officer will bother to investigate whether your computer was just bought in australia before you left.

If you're no longer a student, ask your employer for the salary sacrifice. The price of the computer(excludes GST) will be deducted from your pre-tax income, i.e. you save about 30% if your annual income is under $75000(hooray for the tax-cut this year!). However it has to be a laptop computer otherwise your employer will be charged FBT and I doubt they are willing to pay that. Further more, if you use that laptop for work(well, this is what the tax rule says.. but, you know..), you can claim the tax from it (separated into 3 or 4 years), i.e. another ~30%(honestly, I didn't do this part, but was told by an aussie colleague that he has been doing that on his laptop). So in total it means about 70% save from the retail price. Sweet isn't it? :)

Surely you can't do GST-rebate on a salary sacrificed computer as it has already been GST-free.

Hope this help. No guarantee on the correctness.
thanks for the info.

yes, that's one thing I am not sure. Because I am a part time student still, and working full-time (which I might take anothre couple of years to finish my studies!!! ><)

If I recall correctly, it doesn't matter whether you are a part or full time student, you will be eligible for edu price.
Then, why can't I salary scarifce on my edu price mb/mbp??

Isn't it like you go to a retailer, and ask for a special price then salary scarifice on it?
but anyway, I am not looking to buy a new MB/MBP.. So far, edu price + GST back sounds really great, but if salary scarifice could save me up to 70%~~haha~~~!!! can I do it more than once each year?? like I am looking to buy a new car as well.. or it really depends on each company's policy?

haha~~$75k~~I am not that good, if I could earn that kind of $$, I wouldn't even give a damn about salary scarifice, since I might earn more money with the time I have spent on FBT blah blah (and the company might offer me a free NB anyway!^^)

Ar.. you're right. If you are a part-time student, you might be eligible for both edu price and salary sacrifice. However you'd have find out all the rules(both from apple and taxation) by yourself.

You can only salary sacrifice ONE laptop per financial year. And you can only claim ONE laptop for job use in taxation return per 3(or 4) years, and if unlucky you might be asked by the taxation office proof of that laptop is actually used for work.
BTW, you know what? Apple online doesn't(well.. mostly, in pricise) actually ask you any proof that you're a student/academic staff..

So.. :)
I don't think it 's possible now. You have to choose which institute you are from before accessing to Apple's education site. It will then list out the selected institute as the title. I think they might confirm it with the institute, I'm not sure about it as Apple Store promised that the goods will be shipped in with in business days.

Not sure about the student discount.
My wife is a K-12 school teacher so I bought using her name.
And I'm sure nothing was done to verify her identity.
If you would like to have an educational discount from a retailor, then you have to show your student ID to proove your qualification. However, if you choose to buy it on-line, I'm deadly sure that Apple Australia doesn't check your identity.

But...why choose something risky? Just use any rightful means provided by hcshih. Either way can save the pocket considerably.

I am just wondering whether salary sacrifice is able to go with educational price...it seems feasible.
