it is just way too expensive for me to get a new macbook (if i have the spare money, why wouldn't I?!) have you heard of the discolouring white mac? and skin peeling/flaking black mac issues?
Do you have those macs anyway?

the new one is not just a faster graphic card. it's a completely new notebook. Apple usually change their style around 6 years. If you buy the new one, it will never go out of style for the next 6 years.
the difference between new and old?
1. Touch Pad: on the new one, it is SO MUCH smother than the old one. If you want to get a feel of it, you can try iPod Touch. I believe both use the same technology.
2. DVD drive: on the new Macbook, the DVD is connecting with SATA. on the old one, it's the old IDE.
3. Display: the new one is brighter and more clear. it is cover with glass. NOT THE SAME as regular glossy LCD. (although still can reflect light, but not as severe as HP notebook)
4. CPU: although it is lower clock than old one (2.0 vs. 2.1) it is actually a new model from Intel. I played side by side with both, the new one feel A LOT cooler than old one.(perhaps Aluminum help dispating heat, too)
5. Hard Drive. on the new Macbook, it use Hitachi 5K320 160G HD. it is one of the fastest 160G HD on the market today (for 5400rpm) at least all 16 new Macbook on my local apple store use this one. Apple may change to any other manufactures in the future, though.
i ran some test on both machine. when watching 1920x1080P video. the old one ran quite hot. CPU running at around 70% constantly. on the new one, it's cool and CPU about 25% only. (due to better graphic card acceleration)
You really need to look at it in person to justify how beautiful the new machine is. Pictures just don't tell the whole story. the click pad feel, the display "latch" and many small details are just unbelievable!! On local Apple store, they have both side by side (because Apple still selling both old Macbook and 17inch Macbook Pro) even on the Macbook Pro, the old one just look outdated.
To be honest, on the low end Macbook, $1299 USD is a STEAL. the build quality is way better than other manufactures at this price. It is really a 13inch Macbook Pro for a lot less money than Pro. I think Apple is going to sell A LOT of these. (in fact, while at my local Apple store, in just 1 hour, they sold about 30 of it. that's like one notebook every 2 minutes. AND, actually, a lot of people order online because couple model was completely out at store)
but it all really come down to $$$
now i could considier a 36000 old black MB, or a 45000 new MB!perhaps i will change my mind if i do "feel and touch" the new model! but they wont be here for another 2-4 weeks..

but coming back to my earlier question, is it "safe" to get a white/black MB? What are the chances for me getting a case-may-crack, or case-may-start-to-peel off model? I read the discussion on APPLE discussion forum, they are really worrying me!
其它大大有外殼龜裂或是外殼脫皮/變黃的問題嗎??? 是不是只有早期的才有 (2006-2007版)? 08年初版的沒有吧?

I am still thinking if i should go for MB or MBP, because the price difference is not that significant after adopting ADC student discount(Just HK$ 1K Between the High End MB and Low-end MBP)
