We all know this problem and most of us dislike it - the Smartphone LED doesn't notifies you about any events others then battery and network status. So you don't get any information/notification about received SMS messages or missed calls which would be even more handy if the phone display is switched off (which it is normally).
Midnight, a master of Smartphone Registry tweaks, now delivered another masterpiece: "Flashing LED fix version 1.0"
Flashing LED fix changes certain registry values to allow for a constant flashing LED that flashes every one second to warn users of an incoming call, E-Mail, SMS, Reminder and Alarm Clock.
To cancel the one second flash simply press any key and it will revert back to the usual flash every 3 seconds. This is particularly handy if you have the backlight switched off as you will instantly know that you have missed an SMS, E-Mail or reminder etc before you even turn the display on.
For the techies of you, here what it does/which Registration keys are changed:
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\Keypress">
<parm name="Script" value="f0" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\Ringtone0">
<parm name="Script" value="av0f1pr" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\Clock">
<parm name="Script" value="av0pf1w999999f0" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\SMS">
<parm name="Script" value="av0pf1w999999f0" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\E-mail">
<parm name="Script" value="av0pf1w999999f0" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\Reminder">
<parm name="Script" value="av0pf1w999999f0" datatype="string" />
<characteristic type="HKCU\\ControlPanel\\Sounds\\VoiceMail">
<parm name="Script" value="av0pf1w999999f0" datatype="string" />
However, there is a backside right now: If you change sound settings it will revert back to normal but Midnight is working on the fix for this today.
Anyway, now the LED does what you might expect from it, notifying your about events and not battery and network status only!

Just been playing about with PHM registry editor, trying to get this flasher mod to behave the way I want. These are the registry keys I've been changing:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsClock
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsE-mail
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsReminder
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsSMS
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsVoiceMail
Change to 'values', and look at the 'Script' value data. Example:
apv0f1w999999f0
which I think breaks down into:
ap = alarm play?
v0 = seems to enable the vibrate. remove v0, and the vibrate stops.
f1 = fast flashing once per second
w999999 = wait for 999999 (seconds?), then
f0 = revert to normal 3 second flash.
I changed all mine to apf1w600f0, which seems to give me 10 minutes of fast flashing led, no vibrate, then revert to 3 second flashing.
Hope this helps,
