As a keen user of GX200, I have arranged another two comparsions between the likes of GX200, namely, G10, LX3, P6000, and the more powerful DP1. The comparisons are not for the sake of naming the winner of the race among these compacts which some may consider arch-enemies to each other. If you have been reading T.O.P., you may relate better to what I mean: there was a time when Mike of T.O.P. replied like “I didn't kill your mother” to some readers who considered his adverse comments about a camera offensive.
The comparisons which I put up serve to offer some reality performance checking of these cameras, which I think for general users is shooting in JPEGs and viewing them in normal size. From the comparisons, those of us interested in photography per se may hopefully pick one that suits his photography style and personal characters.
To that end, I also wrote some humble (and biased to some) insights in what to expect and ask upon reading a review. In short, the question to ask is: Do the strengths of the camera allow a me to achieve the results I need for most of the time? As far as that concerns, I have found that to some extent, the more obvious physical benefits like egronmics outweight some minor quality edges.
If you are like me who came from the SLR age and was used to the relatively unexpected results and denser grains in film photos, I think you would appreciate more that there are more in a good photo than a good camera, and good photos take much more than good cameras. From there, I stress on finding the right camera instead of the one with a better specs.
To me, the right one is GX200. Surely, I hope that it can have some of the nicer features. But, the most important of all, a closer-DSLR-like performance. So, the most recent comparison gives me some idea how much the GX200 has left to be desired and included in its future model.
