微軟在官方部落格表示，Wiindows 8 的版本只有四種：Windows 8、Windows 8 Pro、Windows RT 及特別為企業提供的 Windows 8 Enterprise。
Windows RT 版本是專為搭載 ARM 處理器的設備所設計，目前市面上大部分的平板電腦就是使用 ARM 處理器。這個版本無法執行傳統的 Windows 應用程式，必須安裝專門開發的軟體。不過此類設備會以輕薄、長效電池續航力為特色，並附送針對觸控環境設計的新版 Word、Excel、PowerPoint 及 OneNote。Windows RT 不提供單獨購買，只能與硬體設備一同販售。

Win8 RT才是微軟要用來進攻平板市場的作業系統，除非軟體設計者願意同時寫個兩套，否則專為Win8 RT平板設計的軟體將無法用在一般Win8上，包括現在Win7平板升級也只能是一般Win8而無法使用，變成孤兒＞.＜
其它版本的Win8，只是一套相同介面的系統，兩者之間毫不相干，個人對win8對於一般DT、NB消費者的升級或換機需求，保持悲觀看法。
至於Win8 RT是否能夠挑戰Android或iPad？關鍵：一是價格，二是軟體開發者的支持，畢竟Win8等於是一套全新的作業系統，舊軟體都不能跑（這是Windows系統原本最大優勢），如果沒有足夠的軟體開發商支持推出APP，也是孤兒系統一個，誰會用啊！

Win8跟JAVA這兩者這不太一樣
JAVA能跨平台是因為在每個平台上面都有對應的JAVA Runtime版本
.NET Framework其實也是這個原理，問題在於Microsoft沒有開發Mac或Linux平台的.NET Framework，導致.NET程式只能跑在Windows平台
如果Windows 8的ARM版本上面有.NET Framework，理論上是能執行.NET程式
比較類似的就像是Flash，因為瀏覽器都有對應的Flash Player，因此每個瀏覽器都能跑Flash，當Apple把Flash Player踢出去，蘋果裝置就沒有辦法播放Flash了

Windows RT 的 軟體 (就是 MetroStyle AP) 是可以在 Win8(x86) 上跑的,
其本上 MS 的長期目標, 應該是讓 MetroStyle 的 AP,
可以在 WindowsPhone, Windows 8 x86, Windows 8 ARM (WinRT) 上執行,
怎麼可能要同時寫兩套?

大部的 WinRT 軟體 是用 .Net, 或是 HTML5/javascript, 本來的是可以跨平台的..

不然用java coding，一魚通吃
企業要等的平板就是要能支援原有的x86程式

就算有，又為何要用Windows solution? （都走上cloud了，當然要open）

搞錯的應該是你, 重新去看一下原新聞出處比較好
Windows RT 不是 App, 所以當然 Windows RT 更不會是什麼 MetroStyle App
