PPC GPS vs Alpine car navigation system

Now this is the first time I bring my new ppc GPS system to compare my car’s navigation system (the navigation system engine from Alpine).
1. My new toy sets (Dell Axim X30 624, Teletype BT receiver/car mount sets in the SPACE MACHINE bag, and the GPS software is Pocketmap (engine is from SPACE MACHINE), the memory card in ppc already install all California ma (with POI, total is 139MB, and west US high way maps)


2. The opponent is my 9 months old big toy 2004 ACURA TL 3.2 w/NAV, it is a nice car, 270 horse power, sequential shift, DVD-Audio, XM radio, BT handfree system, voice comment navigation system…..


3. Round one, the system start-up time:
PPC: 45 sec (include power on system, pair GPS receiver.
ACURA: 35 sec


4. Round two, interface
PPC: has 3D view
ACURA: only top view


5. Round three, searching time
I feel my car is quicker than PPC.

6. Round four, easy to read and easy to operate
Definitely my car (8 inch screen) is better than PPC (3.5 inch), plus the car support voice comment function.


7. Round five, multitasking.
PPC cannot navigator the car and listen mp3 music, but the my car built in system, can handle satellite radio/DVD audio same time, well, I am too picky


8. Finish my testing, I drove my jet-plane, oh no, I drove my car back home (so many LED lights and 2 screens, I really thought I am operate one plane not a car).


Well, the test is just a general test, it’s fun and cool to have two navigation system with me, the voice comment sound from my car is more nature like real-people saying, the sound from PPC is like robot. But I like both of my toys, next week, I gonna take a long trip to test the PPC accuracy.
